End user license agreement
Last updated October 1, 2026
This agreement is between Vistapane LLC ("Vistapane", "we", "us") and the organization that installs or uses Vistapane ("you"). It covers the Vistapane server and admin, Vistapane Player, the Vistapane Panel app and their updates (together, "the software"). If you install or use the software, you agree to this agreement on behalf of your organization. Buying and billing are covered by the terms of service.
1. What you may do
While your license is active, we give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and run the Vistapane server on one server computer for your organization's own use. On that server you may connect as many displays, room tablets and screen-sharing laptops as you like. You may install Vistapane Player and Vistapane Panel on as many devices as connect to your licensed server. You may make copies of the software and your data folder for backup.
Contractors and IT providers may run the software for you, as long as they follow this agreement. You're responsible for what they do with it.
A trial license lets you evaluate the software until the trial's end date. Trials have no warranty and no support commitments.
2. What you may not do
- Run one license on more servers than it allows, or share a license key with another organization.
- Sell, rent, sublicense or lend the software, or offer it to others as a hosted service, unless we agree in writing.
- Get around, turn off or interfere with the license checks or the "Unlicensed" mark.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, except where the law allows this despite this limit.
- Remove our copyright notices or the Vistapane name from the software.
- Use the software in breach of the law, or to show content you don't have the right to show.
The software is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights not granted to you here.
3. How licensing works
Each license runs for a set period, usually one year. When it ends, is suspended or is turned off, your screens keep running but show an "Unlicensed · Vistapane" mark until you renew.
Online licenses check in with our license server at license.vistapane.cloud about every 10 minutes. If the server can't reach us, it stays licensed for 30 days. Each check-in sends:
- your license key and a random ID made when the server was installed
- the organization name and computer name of the server, and the Vistapane version
- how many screens are paired, and how many are online
Our license server also sees the public IP address the check-in comes from. We use this information to run licensing, to support you, and for Premium monitoring. We don't use it for anything else. Your content, schedules, playlists, screen shares, room calendars and passwords are never sent.
Offline licenses are for networks with no internet. They are tied to one Server ID, never contact us, and stop licensing screens after their end date.
4. Your data
The software runs on your network, and the content you put into it stays on your server. You own it, and you're responsible for having the rights to it and for backing it up. We only see your data if you share it with us, for example during a support session. When that happens, we use it only to help you and don't keep copies once the issue is closed.
5. Emergency alerts
The alert feature shows messages on screens connected to your server. It is not a fire alarm, public address, mass notification or other life-safety system. It isn't certified as one, and it doesn't replace one. An alert reaches a screen only if the screen is turned on, connected and working. Never rely on Vistapane as your only way to warn people.
6. Other companies' services and code
Some features connect to services you choose, such as Microsoft 365 room calendars, weather and RSS feeds, and web pages you add to playlists. Those services are run by other companies under their own terms. We aren't responsible for them, and a change on their side can stop a feature from working.
The software includes open-source and third-party components, such as the Node.js runtime, Microsoft WebView2 and qrcode-generator. Each is used under its own license, and those licenses apply to those components.
7. Warranty
For 30 days after you first get a paid license, we warrant that the software will work substantially as described on vistapane.com. If it doesn't, tell us. We'll fix it, or, if we can't, refund that license fee and end the license. That is your only remedy under this warranty.
Apart from that, and to the extent the law allows, the software is provided "as is". We disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise the software will be uninterrupted or error-free.
8. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability under this agreement is limited to the license fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
9. Ending this agreement
This agreement lasts as long as you have a license. It ends automatically if you seriously break it and don't fix the problem within 30 days of being told. You may end it at any time by uninstalling the software. When it ends, stop using the software. Sections 4, 7 (disclaimer), 8 and 10 continue after it ends.
10. General
- Updates: updates released while your license is active are covered by this agreement. We may change features in an update, but we won't remove a major feature you've paid for during your current license term.
- Export: you agree to follow US export laws when using the software.
- US government users: the software is "commercial computer software" and is licensed to government users only under this agreement.
- Law and courts: the laws of the State of Arizona govern this agreement. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in Arizona.
- Changes: a new version of this agreement applies from your next renewal. We post it here with a new date.
- Everything else: if a court finds part of this agreement unenforceable, the rest still applies. This agreement, the terms of service and your order are the whole agreement between us on this subject.
