Licensing

Activate, renew and move your Vistapane license, or install an offline license on a server with no internet.

Vistapane is licensed per server. One yearly license covers every screen and room sign on that server, with no screen limit. Screens you pair later are covered too.

If a license ends or is suspended, nothing stops working: screens keep playing with a small Unlicensed · Vistapane mark in the bottom-left corner.

#Activate a license key

1. Go to Settings → License.
2. Paste your key. It looks like VP-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
3. Click Activate.

Every screen on the server is licensed straight away, and the page says Every screen on this server is licensed. Activation needs internet access on the server.

#Check-ins

The server checks in with license.vistapane.cloud every 10 minutes, so renewals and other changes reach it on their own. Check now checks in straight away.

If the server can't reach the internet, screens stay licensed for 30 days after the last successful check-in. After that they show the Unlicensed mark until the next successful check-in.

The check-in sends the license key, a random install ID, the organization and computer name, the Vistapane version, and how many screens are paired and online. Your content, calendars, screen shares and passwords are never sent. See the privacy policy.

#Renewal

Settings → License shows the date your license runs until, with a reminder in the last 30 days. When you renew, the new date reaches your server at its next check-in. You don't need to enter anything.

#Move the license to another server

1. On the old server, go to Settings → License and click Remove key. Its screens show the Unlicensed mark, and the key is free to use again.
2. On the new server, activate the same key.

If the old server is gone (a failed PC, for example), email hello@vistapane.com and we'll release the key for you.

#Offline (air-gapped) license

For servers with no internet access at all.

1. Go to Settings → License → Offline (air-gapped). It shows this server's Server ID, starting VPS-.
2. Send the Server ID with your order.
3. You get a license file back. Bring it to the server, on a USB stick for example.
4. On the same page, paste the license or choose the file, and click Install license.

An offline license never contacts us and runs until the date in the file. A renewal is a new file. The Server ID changes only if the server's data folder is deleted, so keep backups.

#What the license messages mean
