DocsScreens and displays
Pair and manage screens
Pair displays with a code, organize them into groups, and control them remotely from the admin.
Pair a screen
A new display shows a 6-character pairing code, such as K7P2QX. Codes skip the characters that are easy to misread (0 and O, 1, I and L).
- In the admin, go to Screens → Add screen.
- Type the code shown on the TV and give the screen a name people will recognize, like Lobby TV or Cafeteria east.
- Choose its Default content: a playlist or a layout.
Displays that are on and waiting also appear under Displays waiting to be paired on the Screens page.
What each screen shows
Every screen card shows whether it's online, what it's playing and why (its default, a group default, a schedule or a push), its resolution and its IP address. Preview mirrors what the screen is showing right now (except screen shares).
From a screen's card you can:
- Identify: show the screen's name on the TV, to find which one is which.
- Reload player, or Skip to next item.
- Clear offline cache, if a screen keeps showing old content.
- Edit: name, default content, group, orientation (landscape, or portrait rotated left or right), volume, operating hours and screen-sharing options.
Under Edit you can also turn on Show a small red dot on the display when it loses connection, which makes a disconnected screen easy to spot when you walk past.
Groups
Put screens that should show the same thing into a group, like Hallways or Building B. Schedules, pushes and alerts can target a whole group at once. A group can have its own default content, which its screens play when they have no default of their own.
Operating hours
Under Edit → Operating hours, turn on Only show content during operating hours and set the on and off times. Outside them the screen goes black, for example overnight. Emergency alerts still show outside operating hours.
Push something now
Push now overrides a screen or a group for a while, for example "show the visitor welcome for 1 hour". Push to many sends it to several screens at once. When the time is up, or you cancel the push, the screens go back to their schedule.
The 3D floor plan
The floor plan lets you model each building's floors and rooms, then drag screens and room signs into the rooms they hang in. Live status shows on the model: online, offline, sharing or off hours.
- Shift-click several rooms, then Make group, to turn them into a screen group. Every screen in those rooms joins the group, including screens you place there later.
- Use orbit, top view, undo, and per-floor or all-floors views to find your way around.
Remove a screen
Open the screen's menu and choose Remove screen. To use the same display again, pair it again with the code it shows. To uninstall Vistapane Player from the PC, see Display PCs.
